Andrew Yen is a Professor of Biomedical Sciences at Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine. His research focuses on cell cycle regulation and differentiation in myeloblastic hematological tumors, particularly using the HL-60 cell line as a model for acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) and non-APL AML studies.
- PhD in Biophysics, Cornell University (1976)
- MS in Physics, University of Washington (1970)
- BA in Physics/Mathematics, Haverford College (1969)
Dr. Yen’s work investigates the molecular mechanisms of retinoic acid and vitamin D3 in inducing cell cycle arrest and differentiation, with implications for differentiation therapy in cancer. His lab explores interactions between retinoid receptors, MAPK signaling via c-FMS, and RB protein function.
His publications since 2017 highlight advancements in differentiation therapy for AML, including studies on Src kinase inhibitors, CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing, and endosomal regulation in late differentiation steps. Collaborations span institutions like the University of Iowa and March of Dimes Foundation.
Scientific awards include the National Woodrow Wilson Fellowship and Leukemia Society of America Fellowship. Academic affiliations include the American Society for Cell Biology, American Association for Cancer Research, and Biophysical Society.
