Andrew Wiesner is a Teaching Professor in the Department of Statistics at The Pennsylvania State University, part of the Eberly College of Science. He earned his Ph.D. in Research Methodology from the University of Pittsburgh (2004), an M.A. in Applied Statistics (2000) from the same institution, and a B.S. in Quantitative Business Analysis from Penn State (1984).
His primary research focuses on sports statistics, including courses like Sports Marketing Analytics and MLB Arbitration. His secondary interests include educational statistics, online course development, and student engagement in online learning. Since 2005, he has led the creation of online statistics courses (STAT 200, 505, 800) for Penn State World Campus.
Wiesner serves on the executive committee of the Penn State Center for the Study of Sports in Society, advises the Sports Analytics and Sabermetrics Clubs, and acts as a statistical consultant for the American Journal of Distance Education. His 2012 publication A Sports-Oriented Approach to Introductory Statistics reflects his pedagogical focus on integrating sports data into statistical education.
