Dr. Andrew Wheeler serves as an affiliate faculty member in the Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology at the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies, Georgia State University, while concurrently working as a Data Scientist at HMS specializing in predictive modeling for health insurance claims optimization.
He earned his PhD in Criminal Justice from the State University of New York at Albany (SUNY Albany), establishing his foundational expertise in law enforcement analytics and policy evaluation.
His research focuses on practical applications of data science in criminal justice systems, particularly place-based and person-based predictive modeling for crime analysis, evaluation of crime reduction initiatives, and development of equitable frameworks for police resource allocation. This work frequently involves direct collaboration with police departments to translate analytical insights into operational strategies for enhancing public safety efficiency.
