معرفی
Professor Andrew Watson is a Research Professor at the College of Life and Environmental Sciences, University of Exeter, and a Royal Society Research Professor since 2009. He leads the Exeter Marine and Atmospheric Science group, focusing on high-accuracy ocean and atmosphere measurements, particularly carbon dioxide, greenhouse gases, and ocean tracers.
- BSc in Physics from Imperial College
- PhD from the University of Reading
His research spans Earth system science, physical and chemical oceanography, atmospheric sciences, and biogeochemical cycles. He developed automated CO2 measurement instruments used globally, pioneered ocean mixing and air-sea exchange studies, and contributed to understanding planetary atmospheres (Earth and Venus) and nutrient limitations in marine ecosystems.
Scientific Awards:
- Fellow of the Royal Society (2003)
- Nansen Medal, European Geophysical Union (2003)
- Plymouth Marine Sciences Medal (2009)
Watson has advised notable scholars like Tim Lenton and collaborated on projects such as the iron release experiments. His work informs climate change science and environmental management. He is affiliated with the Exeter Marine group, Global Systems Institute, and advisory boards for marine and atmospheric research.
