Andrew Watson

Professor Andrew Watson is a Research Professor at the College of Life and Environmental Sciences, University of Exeter, and a Royal Society Research Professor since 2009. He leads the Exeter Marine and Atmospheric Science group, focusing on high-accuracy ocean and atmosphere measurements, particularly carbon dioxide, greenhouse gases, and ocean tracers.

• PhD from the University of Reading

His research spans Earth system science, physical and chemical oceanography, atmospheric sciences, and biogeochemical cycles. He developed automated CO₂ measurement instruments used globally, pioneered ocean mixing and air-sea exchange studies, and contributed to understanding planetary atmospheres (Earth and Venus) and nutrient limitations in marine ecosystems.
