Andrew Walter Knight is a senior staff specialist in general practice at the Primary and Integrated Care Unit of the South Western Sydney Local Health District and holds a conjoint appointment as a Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of New South Wales and Western Sydney University.
Dr. Knight combines extensive clinical experience as a general practitioner with expertise in education, governance, research, and quality improvement. He previously served as the foundation director of training for WentWest, a regional general practice training provider, and held leadership positions including director and chair of the Blue Mountains Division of General Practice, the Nepean Blue Mountains Primary Health Network, and NPS MedicineWise.
His research primarily focuses on quality improvement in general practice, which forms the subject of his recently submitted PhD thesis by publication. He has also published research on the role of general practitioners in caring for people with rare diseases.
Dr. Knight's scientific awards include:
- GP Leaders Award from the National Institute of Clinical Studies (2002)
- Best Tutor at Fairfield Hospital (2012)
- SWSLHD Quality Award for Integration (2015)
- Best Tutor at Fairfield Hospital (2016)
With over two decades of experience in the Australian healthcare system, Dr. Knight served as a clinical advisor to the Australian Primary Care Collaboratives program from 2004 to 2014, working with over 2,000 general practices to improve care quality across Australia.
