Dr. Andrew Wagner is a Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Bowling Green State University's College of Arts and Sciences. His research focuses on host-fungal interaction dynamics in human disease contexts, particularly burn wound infections. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville and operates a research lab investigating fungal colonization mechanisms and host immune responses.
- Ph.D., University of Tennessee-Knoxville
The Wagner lab combines fungal genetics, molecular biology, and microscopy with a novel zebrafish burn wound infection model to study pathogenic fungal mechanisms in thermal injury scenarios. Their work aims to identify therapeutic targets for drug development against burn wound-associated infections.
Research trends revealed through recent publications include: fungal cell wall dynamics, host immune evasion mechanisms, niche-specific infection models, and interdisciplinary approaches bridging microbiology with immunology. The lab has produced impactful work in Candida albicans pathogenesis and burn wound microbial ecology.
