Andrew Tavarelli is a retired Professor of the Practice in Studio Art at Boston College, associated with the Morrissey College of Arts and Sciences. He holds a B.A. from Queens College. His career included teaching painting, drawing, and directing the Senior Project Program for studio majors. He also served as Assistant Chair for Studio Art. Beyond teaching, he curated notable exhibitions like Protection Power and Display: Indigenous Art of Indonesia (McMullen Museum, 1995) and Voice of the Spirits (Boston College Art Gallery, 1989). His research interests span art curation, indigenous art from Indonesia, and studio art pedagogy.
- Exhibitions: Solo shows at venues including The Fischbach Gallery (NY), Rose Art Museum (Brandeis), and Harcus Krakow Gallery (Boston).
- Awards: Three NEA awards, NY State CAPS grant, Blanche E. Colman Award, and multiple BC research grants.
He contributed to academic publishing through articles and exhibition catalogues on Indonesian tribal art. His roles included collaborations with the McMullen Museum and leadership in Boston College’s art programs.
