Andrew Tag is an Instructional Associate Professor and Director of Lower Division Instruction in the Department of Biology at Texas A&M University, where he has been affiliated since 2001. His academic background includes a B.S. (1990) and M.S. (1994) in Biology from Southeast Missouri State University, followed by a Ph.D. (2003) in Plant Pathology & Microbiology from Texas A&M University.
His research focuses on fungal genetics, transcriptional regulation, and plant-microbe interactions, with particular emphasis on understanding mechanisms governing mycotoxin production and pathogenicity in fungi like Fusarium and Neurospora. Notable contributions include studies on the Tri10 gene's role in trichothecene toxin regulation and circadian clock signaling pathways.
Dr. Tag has received prestigious awards for teaching excellence, including the 2021 Distinguished Achievement Award from the Association of Former Students and the National Academies Education Fellowship (2018). His instructional leadership extends to directing undergraduate biology education initiatives.
Publications span topics from fungal transcription factors to plant-pathogen interactions, reflecting his dual focus on basic research and pedagogy. His work bridges molecular mechanisms in fungal biology with applications in agricultural and environmental contexts.
