Andrew Sorensen is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at Utah State University. His academic career spans structural engineering, with a focus on reliability analysis of historic and distressed structures.
- M.B.A. in Business Analytics, Southern Utah University (2023)
- Ph.D. in Architectural Engineering (Structural Engineering), University of Nebraska-Lincoln (2009)
- B.S. in Architectural Engineering (Structural Engineering), University of Wyoming (2002)
Research interests include structural reliability, vehicle-impact analysis of reinforced concrete bridge piers, partial-depth bridge deck repair techniques, and the application of ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC). His work addresses durability, sustainability, and multi-hazard performance in infrastructure systems.
Recent publications emphasize finite element modeling of concrete barriers, sequential loading effects on bridge piers, and optimization of repair methodologies. Awards include the 2023 USU Outstanding Undergraduate Faculty Mentor of the Year and the 2021 Joe Caliendo Teacher of the Year. Co-authored works span experimental testing, statistical analysis, and machine learning applications in concrete material performance.
