Andrew Schwartz serves as a Lecturer at Stanford Law School, teaching Land Use Law, and is a partner at Shute, Mihaly & Weinberger LLP in San Francisco. With a background as head of land use and environmental litigation for the San Francisco City Attorney’s Office for 22 years, he brings extensive practical experience to his academic role.
His educational qualifications are:
- B.A. from Stanford University (1976)
- J.D. from UCLA (1979), where he was a member of the Law Review
Mr. Schwartz's research and practice focus on Constitutional Law, Environmental Law, Land Use Law, and Property Law. He is particularly renowned for his expertise in regulatory takings, eminent domain, and land use litigation, having argued over 40 appeals and secured more than 20 published decisions, including a landmark U.S. Supreme Court case.
His scholarly contributions in property law, especially on takings challenges, align with his extensive litigation practice.
He has been honored with several awards:
