Andrew Salomon

Andrew Salomon is an Associate Professor of Journalism at Purchase College, SUNY. He has a two-decade career in daily journalism, including roles at The Washington Post, Newsday, and Backstage magazine. His research focuses on sportswriter Wendell Smith's intersection with Jackie Robinson's career. He chairs the Journalism Department (2016–20) and co-founded The Purchase Beat, a student-run arts magazine. He established the Richard & Marylee Salomon Fund for Journalists, supporting early-career reportage projects.

Salomon’s research and advocacy emphasize labor issues in entertainment, technology’s impact on arts, and nonfiction journalism. His grants have funded projects like South of the South (2018), @nyc_protests (2020), and Azad Archives (2021). He serves on campus committees addressing student evaluations, writing pedagogy, and strategic planning.
