Andrew Roser is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology at the University of Arkansas at Monticello (UAM) within the College of Math and Natural Sciences. He teaches Microbiology lecture and lab, Introduction to Biological Sciences, and upper-level electives such as Immunology and PCR Methods and Applications.
Research Focus:
- Investigating mechanisms of bacterial endospore germination, particularly Bacillus anthracis spores causing anthrax
- Collaborating with the Arkansas Department of Health (ADH) Zoonotic Disease Section to conduct pathogen diagnostics and surveillance for ticks and tick-borne diseases like Ehrlichiosis
Collaborations: Partnering with ADH to reduce vector-borne disease impacts in Arkansas, focusing on pathogens Ehrlichia chaffeensis and Ehrlichia ewingii transmitted by Amblyomma americanum (lone star tick) and Ixodes scapularis (blacklegged tick).
Philosophy: Emphasizes building student relationships and mentoring future health professionals through shared scientific enthusiasm.
