Dr Andrew Osborne is a Lecturer at the School of Natural Sciences, Birkbeck, University of London. His research focuses on molecular mechanisms of protein export in malaria parasites (Plasmodium species), antigen presentation in immunology, and host-parasite interactions. He has supervised three PhD students since 2013, with topics ranging from computational immunology to malaria parasite protein export mechanisms.
Teaching responsibilities include modules such as Practical Skills for the Biosciences, Cellular Microbiology, and The Molecular Basis of Life. His research output emphasizes structural biology, protein trafficking, and the molecular basis of malaria pathogenesis. Recent studies explore ER-lumenal protein intermediates and hydrophobic sequence roles in Plasmodium.
Publications span topics like protein-protein interactions in Plasmodium, repetitive protein sequences, and membrane topology analysis of proteases. His work bridges biochemistry and cell biology to uncover fundamental mechanisms driving parasitic survival and host cell manipulation.
