Dr. Andrew Nevin is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology & Anthropology at the University of Guelph, affiliated with the Criminal Justice and Public Policy (CJPP) and Criminology and Criminal Justice Policy (CCJP) programs. His research focuses on digital sociology, cyber-criminology, and inequality, with a particular emphasis on the social implications of digital technologies. He holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of Toronto. Dr. Nevin co-chairs the Internet, Technology, & Digital Sociology research cluster within the Canadian Sociological Association.
His research explores three interconnected themes: technology, deviance, and inequality. Current work examines contextual gaps in offending behavior between online and offline spaces, using quantitative methods to analyze why individuals engage in digital misconduct without replicating such behaviors offline. Future research will address cybercrime, cyberbullying, and broader digital sociology topics. His methodological expertise includes digital trace data interpretation and network analysis.
Nevin’s publications span cyber-psychopathy, technological tethering, academic hiring networks, and social media behavior post-relationship dissolution. While no scientific awards are explicitly listed, his work reflects significant contributions to cyber-criminology and digital sociology. Office hours are held Wednesdays 3:00-4:00pm and Thursdays 11:30am-12:30pm in MCKN-639.
