Professor Andrew Monnickendam is a scholar in the Department of English and German Studies at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. His research focuses on historical fiction, Scottish literature, and conflict studies. He has published extensively on the early 19th-century Scottish historical novel, including works by Walter Scott and Christian Isobel Johnstone. His edited volumes and critical analyses explore themes of national identity, war, and reconciliation.
Key research areas include the National Tale genre, Highland life in literature, and the intersection of conflict with peacebuilding. He co-edited Back to Peace: Reconciliation and Retribution in the Postwar Period (2007), recognized as an outstanding academic title.
