Professor Andrew Milat is a leading academic in public health at the University of Sydney's School of Public Health. He serves as Senior Adviser to Sydney Health Partners and is affiliated with the Prevention Research Collaboration. His roles include former Acting Executive Director at the Centre for Epidemiology and Evidence (NSW Ministry of Health) and Head of the Knowledge Transfer Division at the Sax Institute. With a PhD in implementation science and over 25 years of experience, he specializes in program evaluation, health policy, and scaling-up interventions.
Education: BHMS Ed(Hons), MPH (Hons), PhD (in implementation science). Research focuses on prevention strategies, implementation science, scale-up of health interventions, and evaluation methodologies. Current projects include MRFF grants on digital infrastructure for school nutrition programs and scaling evidence-based interventions for youth e-cigarette prevention.
His research outputs span 150+ journal articles and international consensus statements. Key interests include research translation, health policy impact, and public health training. Major grants include NHMRC Partnership Grants for maternal smoking cessation and hepatitis C treatment initiatives. Advising efforts include guiding the MOHMQuit trial and First Nations community weight-loss programs.
