Andrew Martindale is a Professor at the University of British Columbia, affiliated with the Department of Anthropology within the Faculty of Arts. His research focuses on Northwest Coast archaeology, blending Indigenous knowledge with colonialism studies and archaeology and law. He specializes in

- landscape and settlement analyses

His recent work demonstrates the accuracy of Indigenous oral records in documenting millennia of history, challenging settler-colonial epistemologies. He contributes to locating unmarked cemeteries via archaeological methods, particularly those linked to Indian Residential Schools. His research explores vulnerabilities of scientific frameworks to ethnocentrism and their application in Aboriginal rights and title cases.
Over decades, Martindale’s publications span topics like marine reservoir effects, monumentality, and community-oriented archaeology. He supervises numerous graduate students and co-leads a joint Musqueam-UBC platform for history and archaeology education.
