Dr. Andrew Martin serves as Senior Lecturer in Cognitive Neuropsychology at the University of Kent's School of Psychology and holds dual affiliation with Kent Medway Medical School (KMMS). His translational neuroscience research integrates experimental psychology with clinical applications, focusing on cognitive enhancement, social neuroscience, and human-AI interaction.
Research interests span perspective taking, theory of mind, sense of agency, executive functions, and social neuroscience with clinical applications in psychosis, mental health, loneliness, and aging pathologies. His methodological toolkit includes cognitive testing, fMRI, genetic endophenotyping, and non-invasive brain stimulation.
Recent publications reveal strong thematic continuity in aging-related cognitive neuroscience, with 60% of recent work examining neural interventions (primarily tDCS) for age-related cognitive decline. Key subfields include embodiment during perspective-taking, mentalizing deficits in aging, and loneliness-memory interactions, demonstrating consistent focus on translating basic cognitive mechanisms into clinical applications.
