معرفی
Andrew Mackenzie serves as Director and Scientific Member at the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Physics of Solids in Dresden since December 2012. Previously, he held the position of Professor of Condensed Matter Physics at the University of St. Andrews from 2001 to 2012.
His academic background includes:
- BSc in Physics from the University of Edinburgh
- PhD from the University of Cambridge (1991)
Mackenzie's research centers on experimental and theoretical investigations in Condensed Matter Physics, with emphasis on quantum phenomena in solid-state materials. His work explores electronic structures, phase transitions, and emergent properties in correlated electron systems, particularly in unconventional superconductors and topological materials. This research bridges chemical synthesis and physical characterization to uncover novel quantum states.
His career includes research fellowships at the University of Cambridge (until 1997) and University of Birmingham (1997–2001), plus international collaborations at:
- Centro Atómico de Bariloche (Argentina, 1995)
- Stanford University (USA, 2003 and 2010)
- Kyoto University (Japan, 2003)
- Cornell University (USA, 2006)
- National Institute for Material Science (Tsukuba, Japan, 2009)
- Salerno University (Italy, 2009)
Major recognitions include:
- Fellow of the Royal Society (2015)
- Fellow of the American Physical Society (2012)
- Mott Medal from the UK Institute of Physics (2011)
