Andrew Kresch is a Full Professor of Mathematics at the University of Zurich, holding an ordinary membership in the Academy of Europe since 2024. His academic career spans institutions including the University of Warwick and University of Pennsylvania.
- Ph.D. in Mathematics (University of Chicago, 1998)
- B.S./M.S. in Mathematics (Yale University, 1993)
His research focuses on Algebraic Geometry, particularly:
- Rationality problems in algebraic varieties
- Brauer groups and their applications
- Intersection theory on algebraic stacks
- Quantum cohomology of Grassmannians
Recent publications highlight his work on stable rationality in threefolds, equivariant birational invariants, and quantum Schubert calculus. Key themes include algebraic stacks, geometric invariant theory, and enumerative geometry.
Scientific awards:
- Humboldt Research Fellowship (2006)
- EPSRC Advanced Research Fellowship (2003-2006)
He has collaborated extensively with mathematicians including Brendan Hassett, Yuri Tschinkel, and Harry Tamvakis on foundational problems in algebraic geometry and related fields.
