Andrew Knight is an Associate Professor at Colorado State University specializing in Music Therapy. He served as the 2017-2019 president of the Midwestern Region of the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) and currently serves as Associate Editor for Book Reviews for the Journal of Music Therapy.
His educational background includes:
- Ph.D. in Educational Foundations and Research from the University of North Dakota
- Master's degree in Music Therapy from the University of Minnesota
- Bachelor's degree in Percussion Performance (Jazz emphasis) from UW-La Crosse
Dr. Knight's research focuses on applying music therapy to address substance use disorders in adults and early childhood social/emotional developmental issues. He directs the Parkinson’s Disease vocal exercise group in collaboration with Larimer County Parkinson’s Support Group and is a certified Music Together Within Therapy provider, demonstrating clinical innovation in community-based therapeutic interventions.
His significant contributions to the field have been recognized with the MWR Service Award and AMTA Service Award.
Dr. Knight actively shapes music therapy discourse as co-editor of the 2018 Introduction to Music Therapy textbook and through his service on the AMTA Assembly of Delegates.
