Andrew Kahn

Professor Andrew Kahn, FBA, is a leading scholar in Russian literature and modern languages. He serves as Professor and Tutorial Fellow at St Edmund Hall, University of Oxford, and as Professor of Russian Literature at the University of Oxford. His academic career spans institutions like Berkeley, Columbia, and École Normale Supérieure.

• Education: BA from Amherst College, MA from Harvard University, and DPhil from Oxford.

Research focuses on the Russian Enlightenment in European context, Alexander Pushkin’s works, and Russian poetry traditions including 20th-century figures like Mandelstam and Brodsky. His work emphasizes the interplay between ideas, literature, and cultural history.

His publications include monographs on Pushkin, Mandelstam, and co-authorship of A History of Russian Literature. He has edited key texts like Montesquieu’s The Persian Letters and Catherine the Great: Selected Letters.
