Andrew Jones

Andrew Jones is a Professor at Stockholm University since 2021, affiliated with the Department of Archaeology and Ancient Culture and the Stockholm Experimental Archaeology Research Group. He has held academic positions at the University of Southampton (2001-2021), including Lecturer, Reader in Archaeology (2009), and Professor (2016-2021), as well as prior roles at the McDonald Institute for Archaeological Research (1999-2001) and University College Dublin (1998-1999).

• Education: PhD in Archaeology from the University of Glasgow (1997), thesis: "A biography of ceramics: food and culture in Late Neolithic Orkney".
• Research Focus: Philosophical foundations of archaeology as an interdisciplinary field bridging humanities and sciences, materiality of Neolithic/Bronze Age artifacts, digital archaeology, ontological analysis of petroglyphs, and global studies of art's material influence on past societies.
• Current Projects: Collaborative digital reconnection of Blackfoot Confederacy cultural objects in British museums; digital documentation of Paleolithic rock carvings in Vale do Côa, Portugal, with the University of Coimbra and Vale do Côa Archaeological Park.
• Professional Affiliations: Member of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland, Society of Antiquaries (London), The Prehistoric Society, and the Royal Anthropological Institute. Editorial board member for the Japanese Archaeological Society and Current Swedish Archaeology.
• International Engagement: Regular reviewer for research councils in Sweden, Ireland, Netherlands, UK, and Australia. Key excavation work in Kilmartin Glen (Scotland) and Neolithic Britain/Ireland.
