Andrew Jaffe is a Professor of Astrophysics and Cosmology at Imperial College London's Department of Physics, part of the Faculty of Natural Sciences. He serves as Director of the Imperial Centre for Inference and Cosmology and has held visiting roles at institutions like KEK in Japan. He earned his B.S. from Yale University (1984-1988) and Ph.D. from the University of Chicago (1989-1993).
His research focuses on cosmic microwave background (CMB) studies, gravitational waves, and cosmic topology, with significant contributions to the Planck Satellite collaboration. Key achievements include co-authoring Planck's cosmological parameters and leading analyses of CMB polarization and stochastic gravitational wave backgrounds. He has also explored quantum field measurements and future missions like the Simons Observatory and Euclid.
Notable awards include the 2018 Gruber Prize in Cosmology (Planck team) and the Royal Society Group Achievement Award. His work bridges theoretical and observational cosmology, emphasizing statistical methods and interdisciplinary collaborations.
Current projects include advancing the Simons Observatory's science goals, refining CMB power spectrum pipelines, and investigating cosmic topology through machine learning. He has advised on multiple international collaborations and remains active in promoting science communication through blogging and public engagement.
