- MA and BA in Computational and Applied Mathematics, Rice University (1994)
Research Interests: Schaefer’s work spans operations research applications in healthcare logistics, optimization algorithms, and industrial systems design. He has contributed to stochastic optimization frameworks and kidney paired donation allocation models through his advisory roles on national transplant committees.
Awards:
- 2016 Best Paper Award, IIE Transactions
- 2013 Outstanding Young Engineering Alumni (Rice)
- 2006 NSF CAREER Award
- Multiple teaching and service recognitions at University of Pittsburgh
Advising & Committees: He chaired the United States Advisory Committee on Organ Transplantation’s Kidney Paired Donation Workgroup and contributed to the Simulated Allocation Models Improvement Subcommittee. His academic service includes roles at both Rice and the University of Pittsburgh.
