Andrew J. Moore

Andrew J. Moore is a Professor at Heriot-Watt University's School of Engineering & Physical Sciences, affiliated with the Institute of Photonics and Quantum Sciences and the Department of Mechanical Engineering. He leads the Optical Diagnostics group, focusing on optical instrumentation for engineering measurements, fringe pattern analysis, and thermal forming. His research spans dynamic, full-field optical techniques for deformation, vibration, shape, and fluid flow analysis, with industry collaborations including AWE, Renishaw, and BAE Systems.

• Education: BSc in Engineering Science (Loughborough University, 1988), PhD in Optical Metrology (Loughborough University, 1992).

Research interests emphasize novel optical diagnostics for scientific and engineering systems, leveraging non-invasive light-based measurements. His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals through advancements in manufacturing and material science. Recent studies include laser powder bed fusion dynamics and additive manufacturing process optimization.
