Andrew Ichimura is a Professor at San Francisco State University in the Department of Chemistry, where he has been since 2001. His research focuses on materials chemistry for energy and environmental applications, particularly semiconductor thin films for photovoltaics, water splitting, and CO2 reduction.
- Education: BS in Chemistry from Bates College (1986), Ph.D. in Chemistry from University of Massachusetts (1992).
Research Interests: Professor Ichimura develops semiconductor materials like TiO2, FeS2, and MoS2 using hydrothermal synthesis. His work spans environmental remediation (ROS generation for water purification), solar energy conversion (photovoltaic cells), and planetary science (hydroxyl production on lunar/Martian surfaces).
Publications: His articles highlight advancements in anatase TiO2 films, electron trapping mechanisms, and Ti-zeolite applications. Key subfields include photocatalysis, charge transport, and UV/visible light-driven reactions.
Scientific Awards:
- JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowship (1992-1995)
- Cottrell College Science Award (2002-2004)
- SFSU Presidential Award (2005)
- NSF-CAREER Award (2007-2013)
Grants: He has secured significant funding from NASA, NSF, and SF State, including projects on lunar regolith hydroxyls, visible-light water purification, and electron microscopy upgrades.
