Andrew Guthrie Ferguson is a Professor of Law at the George Washington University Law School, where he teaches Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure, Evidence, and a seminar examining police surveillance technologies, privacy, and civil rights. He is a national expert on predictive policing, facial recognition, video analytics, big data surveillance, the Internet of Things, juries, and the Fourth Amendment.
Professor Ferguson's research explores how digital surveillance technologies impact constitutional rights and criminal justice procedures, with particular focus on the societal implications of data collection in law enforcement. His work examines the complex relationship between emerging technologies and civil liberties in the modern era, addressing critical questions about privacy, race, and policing practices.
Professor Ferguson has received significant recognition for his scholarly contributions, including:

With a career bridging legal practice and academia, Professor Ferguson previously worked as a supervising attorney at the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia for seven years, representing adults and juveniles in serious felony cases. He has clerked for the Honorable Chief Judge Carolyn Dineen King of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and served as an Advisor to the American Law Institute Principles of the Law, Policing Project.
