Professor Andrew Gosler holds a joint position in Ethno-ornithology between Oxford's Department of Biology and School of Anthropology and Museum Ethnography. He founded the Ethno-ornithology World Atlas (EWA) and researches biocultural conservation.
Research Focus: Integrates avian ecology (notably Great Tit adaptations) with indigenous knowledge systems. Current work examines human-bird relationships in Ethiopia, Peru, and Costa Rica, addressing conservation through cultural engagement.
Publications (2020–2025) reflect shifting emphasis from woodland ecology (egg pigmentation, winter fattening) to ethno-ornithology, decolonial theory, and multispecies justice. Recent articles prioritize community-based conservation and Indigenous cosmologies.
