معرفی
Andrew Gerrard is a Professor of Physics at New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), serving as Director of the Polar Engineering Development Center (PEDC) and the Center for Solar-Terrestrial Research. He is also affiliated with the Big Bear Solar Observatory. His research focuses on magnetospheric physics, auroral dynamics, and space weather, with significant contributions to understanding the Earth's radiation belts, ULF waves, and solar-terrestrial interactions.
Key affiliations include leadership roles in federal grants funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), focusing on Antarctic geospace facilities, auroral imaging, and upper atmosphere diagnostics. Notable projects include the Short Wave Infrared Imaging for Auroral Physics (2024), Next Generation Geospace Facilities in Antarctica (2024), and MRI acquisition of advanced Fabry-Perot interferometers (2022).
Research interests span magnetosphere boundary studies, radiation belt dynamics, and auroral emissions, with a strong emphasis on observational techniques. He has produced over 60 peer-reviewed articles, including landmark studies on ULF wave observations and RBSPICE instrumentation. Media engagements highlight his expertise in solar activity impacts, such as aurora visibility and space weather disruptions.
Collaborations include international partnerships on interhemispheric ULF wave studies and foreshock transients. His work integrates ground-based observatories with satellite data to advance space weather forecasting and geospace modeling.
