Andrew Epstein is the Chair and Caldwell Professor of English at Florida State University’s Department of English (College of Arts and Sciences). He holds a Ph.D. from Columbia University (2000) and a B.A. from Haverford College (1992). His work focuses on 20th/21st-century U.S. literature and culture, with specialization in modern/postmodern poetry, Cold War literature, and interdisciplinary studies of art/music. Epstein has authored three major books, edited several journal issues, and contributed essays to leading literary collections.
Epstein’s research critiques everyday life’s representation in poetry and culture, emphasizing avant-garde practices and inter-arts connections. His awards include the Choice Outstanding Academic Title (2017) and teaching accolades from FSU (2008, 2014). He currently edits Frank O’Hara In Context and writes a book on Frank O’Hara’s Lunch Poems. His work appears in New York Times Book Review, Contemporary Literature, and Raritan.
Epstein directs the Locus Solus blog on New York School poetry and collaborates on projects about literary figures like John Ashbery and Frank O’Hara. His academic service includes co-editing special journal issues on Stanley Cavell and poetic games.
