Thomas Epstein is a Professor of the Practice in the Department of Classical Studies at Boston College, housed within the Morrissey College of Arts and Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. and M.A. from Brown University and a B.A. from Antioch College. His research focuses on Russian and Comparative Literature, with a particular emphasis on cinema and philosophical intersections. Epstein has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals such as the Slavic and East European Journal and The Russian Review, analyzing topics ranging from historical dramas to existential themes in Camus and Dostoevsky. His work bridges literary analysis with historical and philosophical contexts, often engaging with 20th-century intellectual movements.
He has received prestigious recognition including the Fulbright Scholar award (Saint Petersburg, 2014) and the Boston College Phi Beta Kappa Teacher of the Year (2022). Epstein’s contributions span scholarly reviews, book chapters, and articles that critically examine Russian literature, underground cultural movements like samizdat, and comparative philosophical studies.
