Andrew Dyer is an Associate Professor at Melbourne Law School, University of Melbourne, having joined in July 2024 after over a decade at the University of Sydney Law School. His research focuses on criminal law doctrine and theory, human rights law, and their intersection. He has published extensively on topics including sexual offense law reform, criminal complicity, provocation defenses, and constitutional challenges to punitive laws.
Research interests center on criminal justice reform, the limits of state power, and fair legal procedures. His work has influenced High Court decisions and law reform commissions across Australia. He teaches Criminal Law & Procedure and Legal Method & Reasoning in the JD program, with a 2025 seminar on Contemporary Issues in Australian Criminal Law.
