Andrew Dunn is a Professor and Edward S. Hyman Endowed Chair in Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin, Department of Biomedical Engineering. He serves as Director of the Center for Emerging Imaging Technologies and Associate Chair of Research. His work focuses on developing novel optical imaging techniques for studying brain function, particularly in stroke, migraine, and Alzheimer’s disease. He leads the Functional Optical Imaging Laboratory and collaborates with neuroscientists, neurologists, and neurosurgeons.
Research Interests:
- Optical imaging techniques for cerebral blood flow dynamics
- Applications in neurosurgery and neurovascular monitoring
- Development of laser speckle contrast imaging and multiphoton microscopy
- Neurovascular mechanisms and stroke recovery
Publications highlight advancements in laser speckle imaging, two-photon microscopy, and neurovascular applications. His work bridges engineering and clinical neuroscience, with recent studies on vascular plasticity post-stroke and intraoperative blood flow visualization. The HARMONI project reflects his broader contributions to advanced imaging instrumentation.
Awards include the Edward S. Hyman Endowed Chair, reflecting his academic and research leadership. He oversees major facilities and collaborates internationally, contributing to both basic science and clinical translation.
