Guoqiang Yu

Guoqiang Yu is a Professor in the F. Joseph Halcomb III, M.D. Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Kentucky. He leads the Biomedical Optics Lab, focusing on near-infrared diffuse optical spectroscopy/tomography for noninvasive tissue blood flow imaging. His work spans clinical applications in neurology, oncology, and reconstructive surgery, emphasizing wearable sensors and real-time monitoring systems.

Dr. Yu holds a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from Tianjin University (1999) and has held academic positions at the University of Kentucky since 2007, including roles as Research Assistant Professor at the University of Pennsylvania (2002–2007). His research bridges engineering and medicine, developing novel optical technologies like speckle contrast imaging and diffuse correlation tomography.

Key research interests include cerebral blood flow dynamics, tissue oxygenation monitoring, and intraoperative hemodynamic assessment. His articles demonstrate advancements in wearable sensors, 3D blood flow imaging, and applications in neonatal care, stroke models, and cancer therapy monitoring.

His work has contributed to clinical tools for identifying ischemic tissues during surgery, predicting treatment outcomes in head/neck cancers, and assessing cerebral autoregulation in elderly populations. Current projects focus on affordable optical devices and AI-driven medical image enhancement.
