Andrew DiNardo, MD, PhD, is an Associate Professor at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, specializing in Infectious Disease and Global & Immigrant Health. His work focuses on the immunology of co-infections, tuberculosis pathogenesis, and epigenetic regulation of immunity. He holds certifications from the American Board of Internal Medicine in Infectious Diseases.
Education includes an MD from Wayne State School of Medicine, a PhD in Immunology from Radboud UMC (Netherlands), and postgraduate training at the University of Pennsylvania and Baylor College of Medicine.
Research interests center on how infections like schistosomiasis and HIV alter host immunity via epigenetic changes, particularly DNA methylation. His projects include studying tuberculosis endotypes, immune tolerance mechanisms, and novel diagnostics using stool-based molecular assays.
Key contributions include identifying epigenetic modifications persisting post-infection and their role in immune exhaustion. He leads global initiatives like the Global TB Program, focusing on pediatric and HIV-associated tuberculosis in high-burden regions such as Eswatini and Tanzania.
Current grants support work on helminth-HIV co-infection impacts, host-directed therapies, and premature epigenetic aging linked to post-infectious mortality. Collaborations span institutions worldwide, emphasizing precision medicine and systems biology approaches.
