Dr. Andrew Curson is a Senior Research Associate in the School of Biological Sciences at the University of East Anglia. His research focuses on microbial sulfur cycling, particularly the biosynthesis and degradation of dimethylsulfoniopropionate (DMSP) in marine and terrestrial environments. He leads and collaborates on projects funded by organizations such as the Natural Environment Research Council and the Leverhulme Trust.
- Current affiliations: University of East Anglia
Research interests include microbial enzymology, marine microbiology, and biogeochemical processes involving sulfur compounds. His work explores DMSP production mechanisms in diverse microorganisms, the role of DMSP in global sulfur cycles, and microbial adaptations to hydrocarbon-rich environments. Key projects include investigating DMSP synthesis in cyanobacteria and understanding bacterial contributions to sulfur cycling in coastal ecosystems.
Notable projects: DMSP synthesis via novel enzymes in cyanobacteria, DMSOP's role in sulfur cycles, and hydrocarbon-membrane interactions in photosynthetic organisms. His research outputs include studies on DMSP biosynthesis pathways and microbial enzyme distribution patterns.
