Andrew Cooper is a Lecturer in Sound and Music at the Faculty of Business and Creative Industries, University of Glamorgan, affiliated with the Creative Industries Research and Innovation Group. He began his academic role in a part-time capacity in 2004 while maintaining a career as a freelance recording engineer, blending professional practice with pedagogy.
His teaching expertise includes leading and tutoring modules such as Studio Production, The Creative Musician, The Professional Musician: Delivery, Creative Music Composition & Production, and Group Entrepreneurial Project within BA and BSc programs in Popular & Commercial Music, Music Producing, and Creative Industries.
Research interests focus on the design and application of acoustically transparent headphones and the effects of auditory feedback on musical performance quality. His work explores the intersection of audio technology, acoustics, and performer experience in studio environments.
The three most recent research outputs, published between 2016 and 2019, consistently examine prototype headphone systems, their acoustic properties, and implications for recording musicians. These contributions reflect a focused trajectory in audio innovation, performance enhancement, and experimental studio technologies.
Andrew Cooper has presented his work orally, including at the Innovations in Music Conference, demonstrating active engagement in scholarly discourse. He frequently collaborates with Neil Martin on research projects related to studio performance and headphone monitoring.
He is involved in entrepreneurial and independent study projects with students, contributing to practical and research-led learning in the creative industries. His work bridges academic inquiry with real-world audio engineering applications.
