Dr. Andrew Chin is a Senior Research Fellow in Fisheries at James Cook University since 2008, specializing in coastal ecology, shark and ray conservation, and fisheries management across Australia, Papua New Guinea, and the Pacific region.
His research spans:
- Life history and spatial ecology of coastal predators
- Interdisciplinary fisheries conservation and community-based management
- Indigenous Knowledge integration in coastal resource management
- Climate change impacts on marine ecosystems
- Risk assessment frameworks for policy development
Dr. Chin leads projects including satellite tagging of hammerhead sharks, the 'Shark Report Card' for Australian shark populations, and the 'Shark Search Indo-Pacific' initiative documenting regional elasmobranch diversity. He serves on the Save Our Seas Foundation scientific advisory board and co-founded the Oceania Chondrichthyan Society.
