Dr Bonnie Holmes is a Senior Lecturer in Animal Ecology at the University of the Sunshine Coast (UniSC), affiliated with the School of Science, Technology and Engineering. She holds a PhD from the University of Queensland and BSc (Hons) from Flinders University. Her research focuses on large shark and fish biology, ecology, and genetics, with expertise in satellite telemetry and population genetics. Current projects include invasive species management, shark habitat use, and fisheries sustainability. She co-leads the Marine and Terrestrial Megafauna Cluster at UniSC and serves as Deputy Program Coordinator for the Bachelor of Animal Ecology program. Dr Holmes has contributed to Biosecurity Queensland's aquatic invasives program and collaborates on conservation initiatives, including shark control strategies and environmental DNA (eDNA) monitoring.
Research interests include fish and shark ecology, fisheries management, invasive species biology, and marine megafauna behavior. Her work emphasizes practical applications for species conservation and sustainable resource management. She supervises Honours and HDR students in areas like shark biology, freshwater invasives, and genetic studies. Professional roles include membership in the Oceania Chondrichthyan Society and the Australian Society for Fish Biology.
