Andrew Care

Dr. Andrew Care is an Associate Professor and Academic Director of the Biologics Innovation Facility (BIF) at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), within the School of Life Sciences. His research integrates synthetic biology and nanomedicine to engineer biologically-derived nanoparticles for drug delivery and vaccines. He holds a PhD in Chemistry & Biomolecular Sciences from Macquarie University and has received prestigious fellowships, including the Cancer Institute NSW Early Career Fellowship and UTS Chancellor's Research Fellowship.

Education: PhD (Macquarie University), MSc (University of Waikato), BSc (University of Waikato).

Research interests include nanomedicine, biomaterials engineering, protein-based nanoparticles, neurodegenerative diseases (e.g., Alzheimer's), and cancer therapies. His work combines disciplines like materials science, pharmacology, and synthetic biology to develop innovative nanotechnologies.

Key projects include developing encapsulin-based vaccines targeting Alzheimer's pathology and engineering protein nanocages for targeted drug delivery. His team also focuses on neuronanomedicine applications for Parkinson's disease and improving clinical translation of nanomedicines.

Awards include the UTS Vice-Chancellor’s Research Excellence Award and multiple Dean of Science awards. He has secured grants from Dementia Australia Research Foundation, ARC IDEAL Hub, and others. His leadership roles include organizing conferences like Drug Delivery Australia 2023 and serving on the ARC review boards.
