Andrew C. Chang, MD is the Cameron Haight Collegiate Professor of Thoracic Surgery and Professor of Surgery at the University of Michigan Medical School. His clinical focus includes thoracic malignancies, esophageal disorders, and lung transplantation. He is a member of four research centers: the Center for Computational Medicine and Bioinformatics, MM-PKUHSC Joint Institute, Global REACH, and the Center for Global Health Equity.
Research interests span minimally invasive surgical techniques, endoscopic therapies (e.g., POEM for achalasia), and translational oncology with a focus on esophageal and lung cancers. His work integrates molecular mechanisms (e.g., autophagy pathways, non-coding RNAs) with clinical outcomes, emphasizing personalized medicine approaches for NSCLC.
Recent publications highlight advancements in lung transplant immunosuppression strategies, morphomic predictors for postoperative complications, and endoscopic intervention efficacy. He actively participates in surgical education innovation, particularly during the pandemic to maintain trainee competence.
Dr. Chang collaborates across disciplines to improve surgical outcomes through translational research and quality improvement initiatives in thoracic surgery.
