Andrew Byrom is a Lecturer in Graphic Design at Auburn University, specializing in typography, design history, and virtual/augmented reality applications. He holds an MRes in Typeface Design (University of Reading, 2018–2020) and a BFA in Visual Communication (University of East London, 1993–1996). Current research focuses on historical shifts in typeface design technology and VR/AR integration. He is a PhD candidate at the University of Reading and a founding member of the York Virtual/Augmented Reality Research Group.
Byrom has taught at institutions including Central Saint Martins, USC, and California State University Long Beach. His work spans client projects for The New York Times, Sagmeister Inc., and Standard Chartered Bank, with exhibitions globally. He is an AGI member and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). Notable awards include multiple Type Directors Club and AIGA recognitions.
His projects include the TEDx talk, the Eames Words exhibition, and kinetic typography installations. He leads the York VR/AR Research Group, exploring immersive design applications.
