معرفی
Dr. Andrew Blair Hawkey is an Assistant Professor of Biomedical Sciences at Midwestern University's College of Graduate Studies in Illinois. He leads the Aquatic Neuroscience Laboratory, focusing on neuropharmacology and developmental neurotoxicology using zebrafish and aquatic invertebrates. His work explores how environmental chemicals, drugs, and pollutants impact neurological development and recovery. Dr. Hawkey holds a PhD from the University of Kentucky, a postdoctoral fellowship at Duke University, and prior roles including Adjunct Professor at Elon University.
Education: PhD in Biomedical Sciences (University of Kentucky, 2017), MA in Psychology (University of North Carolina Wilmington, 2012), BA in Psychology (Elon University, 2010). Postdoctoral training in Neuropharmacology and Toxicology at Duke University (2017–2022).
Research Interests: Developmental neurotoxicology of PFAS, insecticides, and flame retardants; behavioral pharmacology; environmental health sciences. Current projects include studying PFAS interaction effects, nicotine-like insecticides, and marine pharmaceuticals for neural recovery. His lab uses zebrafish to model human neurological responses to environmental stressors.
Teaching: Courses include Environmental Health Sciences (BISCD 0828/0928), Research Design & Methodology (BISCD 0556/0826), and Biostatistics (BISCD 0557).
Labs/Teams: PI of the Aquatic Neuroscience Laboratory, collaborating on neurotoxicity, epigenetics, and translational research. Openings for MABS, MBS, and CCOM students.
