Andres Kasekamp is a Professor of History at the University of Toronto and Chair of Estonian Studies at the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy. He holds an affiliation with the Centre for European and Eurasian Studies. Previously, he served as Professor of Baltic Politics at the University of Tartu and Director of the Estonian Foreign Policy Institute, with visiting roles at Humboldt University Berlin and the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs.
His research focuses on Baltic states, European security policy, memory politics, and the populist radical right. Key works include A History of the Baltic States (translated into nine languages) and The Radical Right in Interwar Estonia. He currently serves as President-Elect of the Association for the Advancement of Baltic Studies and editor of the Journal of Baltic Studies.
His scholarly contributions have earned prestigious awards: the Estonian National Sciences Prize (2014) and Baltic Assembly Prize (2011). He frequently advises international bodies, including parliamentary committees of Canada, Estonia, Finland, the EU, and the Baltic Assembly.
Recent media engagements include analyses on NATO’s Baltic security posture under Trump, Estonia’s frontline status, and drone surveillance in Russia’s Ukraine conflict. His work bridges academic rigor with policy relevance, influencing both scholarly discourse and geopolitical strategy.
