Georgia Andreou is a Professor of Linguistics and Special Education at the University of Thessaly, specializing in neurolinguistics, psycholinguistics, and educational interventions for neurodevelopmental disorders. She holds leadership roles, including former Head of the Department of Special Education (2019–2024) and current Board member of the University. Her research focuses on language acquisition, bilingualism, and assistive technologies like eye-tracking for assessing cognitive and linguistic deficits in conditions such as autism, dyslexia, and Down syndrome. She has coordinated numerous EU-funded projects, including the Greek Diaspora Program and international collaborations on inclusive education.
Andreou earned her PhD in Neurolinguistics from the University of Thessaly, following degrees in English Literature (University of Athens) and Language Disorders (University of Sheffield). She has authored over 20 books and 150 peer-reviewed articles, with a strong emphasis on practical applications of research in education and clinical settings. Her work has been cited over 2,150 times (h-index 28), and she serves on editorial boards of journals like International Journal of Disability, Development and Education and reviews for high-impact outlets like Perceptual and Motor Skills.
Her funded projects include investigating bilingual transfer in learning disabilities, eye-tracking for reading disorders, and integrating technology for students with ADHD. Recent awards include the European Language Label 2012 for a Greek language course for immigrants. She is actively involved in policy-making, serving on the Hellenic Foundation for Research Innovation and leading initiatives like the EmpowerEd mental health and inclusion program.
