Andrejs Šitovs

Andrejs Šitovs is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacology at Riga Stradiņš University, Faculty of Medicine. He is actively engaged in pharmaceutical and veterinary pharmacology research, with a focus on improving drug bioavailability and delivery systems. His work bridges human and veterinary medicine, particularly in antimicrobial pharmacokinetics and formulation science.

His research interests center on pharmacology, toxicology, drug delivery, bioavailability enhancement, and veterinary pharmacokinetics. He specializes in Self-Emulsifying Drug Delivery Systems (SEDDS) for poorly soluble drugs such as resveratrol and silibinin, and studies antimicrobial agents like levofloxacin and tilmicosin in animal models including geese and rabbits. His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in health and well-being (SDG 3) through improved therapeutics.

The recent articles reflect a strong trend in oral drug delivery, ex vivo permeability testing, and biopharmaceutical modeling, with significant emphasis on formulation strategies to overcome solubility limitations. Andrejs Šitovs actively supervises PhD and student research projects funded by the European Social Fund and Latvia State Budget.
