Andrej Jovanović is a Research Trainee at the Department of Architecture, Faculty of Architecture, University of Belgrade. Born in 1998 in Belgrade, he completed his primary and secondary education in Ćuprija before earning his Bachelor's degree (2020) and Master's degree (2022) at the University of Belgrade - Faculty of Architecture. He is currently pursuing doctoral studies (2023) at the same institution.
His research focuses on architectural and urban planning with specialized interests in semiotic theories in architecture, theory and aesthetics of symbolic forms, phenomenology of architectural form, and metaphoricity of architecture. His work critically examines the design process and symbolic functions of architectural elements.
Jovanović gained significant recognition for his Master's thesis "Architecture of liminal space: dematerialization of the border of the old sugar factory in Ćuprija," which was nominated for prestigious international awards including the RIBA President's Medals - Silver and the UnIATA World's best graduation projects awards in 2022.
- Member of the Montenegrin pavilion team at the 18th Architecture Biennale in Venice (2023) with exhibited work "Krajputaši / Roadsiders"
- Active researcher at the Laboratory for Typology and Morphology of the City (Morpho-lab)
- Regular participant in domestic and international architectural competitions and exhibitions
He has served as a student assistant at both the Department of Architecture (2020-2023) and Department of Urban Planning (2019-2020), demonstrating consistent academic engagement throughout his educational journey.
