Andreia Reis do Carmo is a Researcher at the Brazil Institute, part of the School of Global Affairs within King’s College London’s Faculty of Social Science & Public Policy. Her work focuses on political corruption, civic engagement, and legislative change in Brazil. She holds an MPhil from the University of Oxford (2014) and a PhD from King’s College London (2023), both centered on anticorruption movements and their societal impacts.
Her doctoral research examined how corruption perceptions and social movements drive legislative reforms in Brazil, employing qualitative and quantitative methods. Funded by CAPES Foundation, her thesis, *The mobilising power of corruption*, innovatively analyzed the role of citizen participation in combating corruption beyond traditional institutional approaches. Key supervisors include Anthony Pereira and Kostantinos Tsimonis. Her work bridges political theory and empirical analysis, contributing to global debates on democratic accountability and civic mobilization.
Andreia’s research emphasizes causal mapping of social movements and legislative outcomes, using data like the LAPOP Survey. She explores how public pressure translates into policy changes, offering insights into Brazil’s political dynamics and broader implications for governance transparency.
