Andrei Pavelescu is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Math and Statistics at the University of South Alabama, where he has been employed since August 2015. He earned his Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Southern California (2012), an M.Phil. from the University of Pennsylvania (2006), an M.A. from Johns Hopkins University (2003), and a B.S. from the University of Bucharest (2002). His research spans group theory, ring theory, graph theory, and the mathematics of gerrymandering.
His work in finite group theory focuses on permutation groups and derangements in primitive permutation groups, while his ring theory research explores maximal commutative subrings of matrices. Graph theory contributions include linkless embeddings, Hadwiger numbers, and gerrymandering analysis. His publications since 2002 reflect interdisciplinary interests in algebraic structures and topological graph properties, with recent collaborations advancing understanding in graph minors and embeddings.
